Gerd -The Luminous Goddess Empowerment Gerd - "The Goddess of Light" Belonging to the race of giants, and daughter of Gymir Aurboda, Gerd was the Goddess of Light, the path, leaving a trail of sparks, and as she raised her arms, she radiated a brilliant light on the sky, land and seas (some authors interpret this light: as the Aurora Borealis). Freyr, seeing her fall madly in love, and to demand her in marriage,
Skirnir sent His aide, as a messenger, That he offered the apples of youth and the magic Draupnir ring. But Gerd did not wanna marry a god and refused. The messenger Ameal, then, threatened her with runic curses That would make her sick, ugly and wanton. After nine nights, she relented, but demanded in return for a horse and the sword Freyr (Which, Therefore, she fighted at Ragnarok armed only with horns of deer).
This myth can be seen as representing the sacred marriage between the God of Fertility and the Earth Goddess (Celebrated annually as the Celtic Beltane Sabbat, and the Nordic Celebrations of the 1st of May), as the name of Gerd meant "field". Another interpretation of the myth sees it as an exemplification of the annual cycle, the transformation of the frozen earth, parched by the rigors of the northern winter (symbolized by the nine nights) at the outbreak of vegetation in the spring, won by force of the God of Fertility.
The rivers of the solar heat to melt the ice and allowed the rebirth of natures, just as the insistence of Freyr melted the coldness of Gerd. Before marriage, Gerd lived a simple wooden house, surrounded by mountains, Which she left to live in Alfheim, with Freyr. Gerd can be Invoked in situations where you have to overcome opposition or resistance, or the Circumstances of the people, and to activate the thin shoots of new projects.
